The battery should be cleaned. dirt and corrosion around the posts will allow current leakage. The battery is also a part of the electrical system of your car. This system consist of an alternator, regulator, and wiring.

Your emission control devices or system should be checked to see that it is working properly.

Now this may seem like a lot of things to do to make your car top shape, its necessary. With a complete check regularly, you'll find minor problems before they develop into a big one.
